Summer School in Social Science Methods

6 July 2026

We are excited to announce the Plenary Lectures for this year's Summer School in Social Sciences Methods.

This year’s sessions tackle a critical shift in academia: the rapid integration of Generative AI (GenAI) into the research and publishing process. While GenAI can boost efficiency, emerging evidence suggests heavily assisted papers often rely on standardised argumentation and face lower acceptance rates in top-tier journals. This presents young scholars with difficult trade-offs between publication volume and innovative, engaging work.

To help navigate this new landscape, our plenaries aim to:

  • Examine emerging evidence on GenAI's impact on publication quality, acceptance rates, and the peer-review process.

  • Share practical experiences among instructors and summer school participants.

  • Develop robust strategies for young scholars to balance GenAI efficiency with traditional scientific craftsmanship and peer engagement.

The lectures will take place in person on the USI Lugano campus and will be followed by a networking aperitivo for Summer School participants, instructors, and invited guests.
