In order to help current students and recent graduates to find their way in the working world, many of our alumni shared their career story. Here the story of Manuel Dal Checco, Financial Analyst at Amazon in Luxembourg (LUX). USI Degree: Master in Finance, 2025.
How did you start your career?
I started shaping my career during my Master’s in Finance at USI, where I developed strong analytical and financial skills. Before that, I gained initial professional exposure through internships, including one at PwC. During the Master’s I focused on practical projects, which eventually helped me secure a position at Amazon in Luxembourg.
Why did you choose a career at Amazon?
I was attracted by Amazon’s fast-paced and data-driven environment. The company offers the opportunity to work on large-scale business decisions while continuously learning and taking ownership early in your career.
What is your current role/duties?
I work as a Financial Analyst supporting business teams with financial modeling, forecasting, and performance analysis. My role involves translating complex data into insights that help leadership make strategic decisions.
In your opinion, what are the qualities necessary for a successful career at Amazon?
Curiosity, ownership, and strong analytical thinking are essential. It’s also important to be comfortable working with data, solving complex problems, and communicating insights clearly to different stakeholders.
What positive aspects and qualities meant most to you during the study programme you attended?
What I appreciated most was the balance between theory and practical applications. The program encourages critical thinking and includes projects with real companies, which helps students understand how finance works in practice.
What competences and skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?
The program strengthened my analytical mindset and my ability to work with financial models and data. It also improved my problem-solving and presentation skills, which are essential when communicating insights to business teams.
What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?
Be proactive and look for practical experiences as early as possible. Internships, projects, and networking opportunities are key to understanding what you enjoy and to building the foundations of your career.
